Awkward floor layouts and designs.  Some floors are designed with minimal regard to how floors will be cleaned and maintained.

Tight budgets.  Floor maintenance postponed due to costs can lead to floors that are more difficult to maintain.

Inadequate training.  Continuous education ensures workers are updated on cleaning techniques.

Outdated equipment.  Keeping old machines past their life expectancy can be costly.  Newer machines are often easier to use, improve worker productivitity, and offer better value than a restored, older machine.

Not allowing sufficient drying time between coats when refinishing a floor.

No floor maintenance plan in place, detailing daily, weekly, quarterly and annual floor care procedures.

Ineffective or no matting system at key entries.

Not prioritizing floors.  Some floors need more cleaning attention than others.

Selecting the wrong type of flooring material.  Designers may select a floor based on appearance rather than function.

Refinishing floors at the wrong time of the year.  In most cases it is preferable to refinish floors during the spring and summer months.  This can vary though depending on location.
